10 Recipes To Make Your House Smell Like a Bakery

4 June 2021 | Saffron Soirees

There’s nothing quite like the smell of a bakery - the cozy, warm aroma of freshly baked bread evokes the comfort of simpler days like none other. The smell of freshly mown grass on a rainy day may come close

…but how do you recreate that? Here, we’ve picked out our favourite recipes to help you recreate the delicious smell of your neighbourhood bakery right at home!

These homemade breads and pastries pay homage to our Indian roots and global travels. We hope you enjoy making them as much as we loved putting them together!

1. Eggless Chocolate and Banana Bread

The delicious aroma of chocolate sits right at the top of our list. The rich, dark colour of cocoa in this recipe complements the roasted banana on top. The eggless recipe is indulgent and flavourful

2. Multi Grain Bread

Making bread at home can be a little intimidating, but trust us with this recipe and you’re sure to experience that warmly satisfying aroma of freshly baking bread soon.
Our multi-grain bread is made with bread flour, wholemeal and oats flour, and topped off with pumpkin and sunflower seeds. This is definitely a better alternative to white bread or whole-wheat bread.

3. Pav (Dinner Roll)

Dinner rolls, or Ladi Pav as they are called in India, turn out so much better when made at home than store-bought ones. They are soft and fluffy, and can be eaten with Pav Bhaji, Egg Bhurji, Vada Pav, and Dabeli.

4. Monkey Bread with Caramel Sauce

Monkey Bread, coined as such, comes from pieces of bread being pulled out from the whole bread, similar to the way a hungry monkey would eat it! And you won’t regret needing your fingers to pull this bread apart – the joy of this recipe is in licking all of that caramel sauce off your fingers! Try this for a delicious, comforting start to your Sunday

5. Breadsticks (Grissini)

Italian Breadsticks, or Grissini, are super simple to make. This is one baking experiment where you don’t need to worry about how evenly they turn out. Their unevenness adds to their rustic charm. Plate them for the perfect centrepiece for a rustic-chic meal, or serve them alongside nourishing soups for that touch of hygge.

6. Cinnamon Rolls

The best cinnamon rolls you’ll ever eat! So soft and gooey, you won’t be able to stop at one – get your home smelling of Christmas all-year round with this decadent recipe.

7. Naan

Naan, an Indian flatbread, is traditionally baked in a tandoor and has a signature, smoky fragrance redolent of its roots. At home, you can follow our recipe to cook these on a pan, or even in the oven to recreate its flavour.

8. Olive and Herb Focaccia

Only 7 ingredients go into making this easy, yet flavourful bread, steeped in the fragrance of Italy’s Ligurian coast. Drizzle it with olive oil on top and enjoy as an appetizer, or as an accompaniment to a main.

9. High Protein Quinoa Bread

Loaded with protein and other flours, this gluten-free bread makes the perfect toast and sandwiches. Delicious, light and easily prepared at home with just a few tweaks!

10. Pita Bread

There is something so satisfying watching your handmade pita puff up in the oven. This bread is so simple to make, and so delicious along with Hummus, and can be added to a comforting bowl of Fattoush salad as well.
