If you’ve suddenly found yourself, like most of the world, unable to eat out, and missing Indian food, fear not!

These Indian-inspired chicken appetizer recipes are super easy to make at home, and have all the flavours you would find in your local Indian restaurant.

1. Tandoori Chicken

Probably the most famous Indian chicken dish, it is prepared by roasting chicken that is marinated in yogurt with various spices, and cooked in a cylindrical clay oven called a tandoor.

2. Peshawari Chicken Seekh Kebab

These popular kebabs are made of minced chicken mixed with onions and Indian spices, which are then shaped into cylinders and grilled to a smoky flavour. Try this recipe which has a twist with dried rose petals added to the minced chicken

3. Methi Malai Chicken Tikka

Methi Malai Chicken Tikka, or Murgh Methi Malai as it is commonly called, is a simple yet delicious Indian appetiser. The fenugreek (dry kasoori methi), along with the other spices and yogurt combine to give it a unique flavour.

4. Chicken Shammi Kebab

Another popular appetizer is the Chicken Shammi Kebab, which combines minced chicken with Indian spices, chana dal and chickpea flour. The flavourful mixture is then rolled into round discs and golden fried on the outside, while staying juicy and tender on the inside.

5. Murgh Kali Mirch (Black Pepper Chicken)

This recipe requires only 8 ingredients to make, and can be made in under 30 minutes – tender and juicy chicken pieces are cooked with salt, whole black pepper and ginger to give it a uniquely spicy taste.

6. Reshmi Chicken Kebab

Tender pieces of boneless chicken marinated in equal parts cream and yogurt, coated in spices and cooked till well done, this kebab is a huge hit with adults and kids alike, thanks to its lower spice level.

7. Chicken Tikka

Probably the most famous dish to come out of South Asia, the mighty chicken tikka is made by marinating small boneless pieces of chicken with thick yogurt and various Indian spices, and cooked on metal skewers inside a red hot tandoor. This is how chicken tikka got its name – the word ‘tikka’ means ‘bits’ or ‘pieces’.

Try a delicious twist to this with Achari Chicken Tikka – this recipe adds a zing of your favourite achar [pickle] to the chicken marination.

Another uniquely delicious twist to this classic is Ajwaini Chicken Tikka – flavourful chicken pieces marinated with traditional spices, with a twist of carom seeds, and shallow fried to perfection!

8. Murgh Malai Cheese Tikka

Cream, yogurt and cheese, along with cashew nuts and spices, create a twist to the classic recipe of Murgh Malai Tikka – a general favourite since it is low on heat but bursting with flavours!
